Dental Appliances
At Dr. Rachel Navaneelan & Associates in Cornwall, our dentists offer custom-fitted dental appliances, including night guards and sports guards, to help improve and protect your oral health and overall wellbeing.
What is a Dental Appliance?
To maintain exceptional oral health, we need to do more than simply brush and floss. Some of us play sports, or clench or grind our teeth. For these individuals, dental appliances can help us preserve and protect our oral structures, in addition to our overall physical health.
At Dr. Rachel Navaneelan & Associates, we offer night guards and sports guard appliances to improve and protect the health of your oral cavity while you sleep and play sports.
Night Guards
Do you grind your teeth or clench your jaw while you sleep? Over time, this clenching and/or grinding (referred to as bruxism) can cause wear on your upper and lower teeth, and lead to jaw pain.
A night guard can act as a buffer between your teeth, preventing contact and any damage that may result.
If you wake with painful jaws in the morning as a result of clenching through the night or TMJ Disorder, relief can come in the form of a night guard, which helps protect your teeth whilte you sleep.
Your dentist can fit you with a custom-made night guard. During an appointment, a digital scan of your teeth will be taken to ensure a snug and comfortable fit - as well as a restful night's sleep.
Sports Guards
We encourage all of our patients to stay physically active and play the sports they love. A custom-made sports mouth guard can help keep your teeth and soft tissues of your mouth safe - even if you happen to get hit in the mouth while on the rink, field or court.
Because any high-impact activity also carries risk, we recommend wearing a sports mouth guard while playing any sport that puts your mouth, teeth or jaw at risk of injuries such as fractured teeth or cut gums.
A custom-made sports mouth guard provides a barrier between your teeth, the soft tissues of your mouth, and anything that could cause harm. Your dentist will be able to fit you with a custom-made sports guard to protect your smile and keep you in the game.
